GRAUZONE announces the first names for the festival’s second edition on January 31st 2014: Peter Hook plays New Order, Lydia Lunch – Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, Chris & Cosey, Jah Wobble, Cold Cave, Pop. 1280 and Belgrado.
Headliner Peter Hook & The Light plays New Order is one of the most influential acts from the 80's. Peter Hook was a founding member of both Joy Division and New Order, and after the smashing success of his Joy Division tour, he’s back to play New Order’s most important album’s: Movement (1981) and Power, Corruption & Lies. This New Order tour, where hook will play both albums in their entireties, has been met with rave reviews in the UK and USA. Now, Peter Hook & The Light will bring this show, including classic singles like 'Blue Monday' and “Temptation” to continental Europe for the first time. ‘Queen of No Wave’ Lydia Lunch is also a highly influential figure in the post-punk scene. She started her first band, Teenage Jesus & The Jerks in the late 70’s and has since collaborated with artists like Nick Cave, Henry Rollins and Sonic Youth. For GRAUZONE, Lunch will team up with Weasel Walter (The Flying Luttenbachers) to play the no wave from her formative years with The Jerks. British duo Chris & Cosey rose from the ashes of the first industrial band Throbbing Gristle. They've always experimented with synthesizers, samplers and drum machines. And they've been very important in the evolution of electronic music. Legendary post-punk and dub bass-player Jah Wobble was one the founding members in Public Image Limited (PIL), and played bass as well as composed songs on the first three classic PIL albums. After a conflict with frontman John Lydon, he had a successful solo-career during which he worked with Brian Eno and members from Can and U2. For GRAUZONE, he will do a special post-punk/dub set as Jah Wobble in Dub, where he will play songs from PIL and from his solo-work.
GRAUZONE is once again inviting a host of newer bands to share the stage with those 80’s originators. Pop. 1280, Cold Cave and Begrado. With “GRAUKUNST – A Shit In The Face Of History”, the festival will launch a full-scale exhibition focusing on well-known and upcoming artists and musicians with their roots in counter-culture. The exhibition will be hosted at the Melkweg Gallery from January 16th till February 16th. Apart from the art exhibition, GRAUZONE will also present a film line-up and a symposium.
